Aerial view of Talent, OR. Early settlement of the area was focused along the many creeks that run through the Rogue River Valley. The earliest claims to the Talent area were filed in 1851 by two Euro-Americans, Stone and Poynetz. They resided for a short period at the crossing of Wagner Creek and Bear Creek, but returned to their families back east. There were other claims in the area, but in early 1852, the discovery of gold in Jacksonville most likely caused these first claims to be forgotten or abandoned.
