School on Wagner Creek, 1934-35
The school on Wagner Creek was built in 1856 and served the extended community of farms and ranches along Wagner Creek. Built in 1856 it was known as the George Lynch School (occasionally also refered to as the South School). The Wagner Creek School District was officially recognized in 1862 as District 56. A separate Talent School District formed in 1888 to serve the newly formed Talent community centered around the newly opened Talent Post Office. Wagner Creek School District remained fiercely independent and fought to stave off annexation or consolidation with Talent. In 1951, the Wagner Creek School District meged with the Phoenix School District in 1951. (source: "Historic Context Statement for The City of Talent, Oregon" by George Kramer, M.S. HP)
